The defending regular season champions have taken over first place in the South Coast Women’s Hockey League after games played in Week 10.
The Meadow Ridge Moose swept the island Surge in a two-game series in greater Victoria, leaving both teams in first place with 30 points, with the Moose having played four fewer games.
Meadow Ridge skated to a 5-2 win Saturday evening at the Panorama Rec Centre, powered by two goals from Shay-Lee McConnell. Ashley McCabe, Whitney Dove and Madison Patrick also scored for Meadow Ridge.
Eilidh Macdonald and Sara Charbonneau tallied for the Surge.
A day later at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, Meadow Ridge completed the sweep with a 4-1 victory. McConnell netted as pair of goals and added an assist. Brie Bellerive and Natalie Richardson also scored, with Daytona Penston netting the lone goal for the Surge.
The Moose are 10-2-0 (win-loss-tied) on the season while the Surge dropped to 10-6-0.
The Fraser Valley Jets remained in third place at 8-2-1 after defeating the Richmond Devils 5-1 at the Chilliwack Coliseum.
Kirsten Martin tallied twice while posting a four-point game. Shay Gronnemose also netted a pair of goals with Kristy Ricard contributing with a goal and an assist,
Emily Chau notched the lone goal for the Devils, a team which also tied the Surrey Wildcats 3-3 Friday night at Langley Twin Rinks.
Stefanie Costales scored twice for Richmond in Langley, netting the tying goal with 3:42 to play, Nicole Lim had the other goal for the Devils, in fifth place at 4-8-1.
For the Wildcats, Kameko Hall scored twice and Alicia Zahn added a single as the Wildcats earned their first point of the season. Surrey is seventh at 0-11-1.
The Wildcats lost 3-0 Saturday night to the South Fraser TNT at Planet Ice – Coquitlam. Hannah Charlesworth, Jackie Sollis and Megan Jokai were the goalscorers, with Melinda Choy making 24 saves for her first shutout of the season,
South Fraser is fourth in the SCWHL at 8-3-1.
