Third championship for North Shore Rebels

Playing in their fourth consecutive championship game, the North Shore Rebels claimed their third South Coast Women’s Hockey League crown to become BC Hockey Senior AA champions.
The Rebels edged the Meadow Ridge Moose 4-3 in a back-and-forth final game Sunday on the final day of the six-team tournament. The game was rematch of last season’s final, won 1-0 by the Moose.
The underdogs in the championship game, the Rebels were coming off a third-place finish in the regular season yet took a 2-0 lead early in the second period when Megan Taylor scored just 42 seconds after the break.
The first-place Moose erupted for three goals in four minutes midway through the middle frame, getting the first goal from Sydney Kreps than a pair of unassisted efforts from Payge Pena.
North Shore got a game-tying goal from Ivana Bilic late in the second period, sending the teams into the final frame tied 3-3.
Meadow Ridge had a 13-5 edge in shots on goal over the final 20 minutes, but Karmen Mooney netted the only goal with 11 minutes remaining.
Mooney was named the playoff’s Most Outstanding Player.
In the bronze medal game, Cassidy Bell scored three times to lift the Kamloops Vibe to a 6-3 win over the South Fraser TNT.
Sadie Colter, Jenna Ormondy and Jenna Fletcher also scored for Kamloops. Hannah Charlesworth, Natalie Knight and Carlyn Shimizu replied for South Fraser
