Week 8: Moose edge Rebels in OT

Week 8: Moose edge Rebels in OT

SCWHL

An overtime victory over the second-place North Shore Rebels kept the Meadow Ridge Moose in first place in the SCWHL standings after Week 8.
The Moose got a goal from Kaelie McMurtry a minute into the extra session to edge North Shore 4-3 Saturday evening at the Langley Sportsplex.
The goal was McMurtry’s third of the season and improved Meadow Ridge’s record to 9-0-1 (win-loss-tie) on the season, three points clear of the second-place Rebels at 7-3-0. Extra time favours the Moose in the standings, as they have two overtime wins, while North Shore has a pair of overtime losses.
Darcy Henderson, Natalie Richardson and Payge Pena also scored for the Moose. Jess Sibley, Carmen Mooney and Danika Carter were the goal scorers for North Shore.
The Richmond Devils moved into third place with an 8-2 win over the Surrey Wildcats, moving into a tie with the idle Kamloops Vibe, three points back of North Shore. Richmond has the tiebreaker, with two games in hand on the Vibe.
Stefanie Costales put up a hat trick to lead Richmond scoring. Melissa Phillips and Ashley Specht netted two goals each with Natalie Korenic scoring once.
For Surrey, Halle Alook and Emily Johnston were the scorers.
The Island Surge were on the mainland for three games, failing to earn a point in their chase of the final playoff position. Their weekend began with a 3-2 loss to the Fraser Valley Jets at the Langley Sportsplex Friday night.
The Jets got the winning goal with a little less than two minutes remaining in regulation time, with Alice Lee netting the winner with her fifth goal in eight games played for Fraser Valley. Makenna Burns and Paige Smith also scored for Fraser Valley, while Katarina Banman and Leah Lanthier replied for the Surge.
The Victoria-based Surge fell 3-2 to the South Fraser TNT Saturday evening at Planet Ice – Coquitlam. Jackie Sollis scored twice and assisted on another goal by Hayley Voytechek to lead the TNT.
Kristen Gawley netted the lone goal for the Island.
The Surge completed their weekend with a 5-1 loss to the North Shore Rebels Sunday afternoon at the Langley Sportsplex.
Eilidh Macdonald scored for the Island, while Sibley, Jasmine Manhas, Mooney, Sarah Webster and Carter netted one each for the Rebels.
