Week 7: Sweeps by Devils, Moose

Two wins in as many games has bumped both the Richmond Devils and Meadow Ridge up one place in the SCWHL standings after Week Seven.
The Devils made a trip to the Memorial Arena in Kamloops, where they swept the Kamloops Vibe in a two-game set.  Now at 6-3-1 (win-lost-tied), the Devils moved past the Fraser Valley Jets into fourth place in the SCWHL.
Richmond began the weekend with a 2-1 overtime win Saturday night. After Cheyanne Watkinson gave the home side a 1-0 lead with the lone goal of the second period, the Devils pulled even with a powerplay tally by last season’s SCWHL scoring champion Ashley Specht with seven minutes left in regulation time.
Amy Van Eynde notched the winner – also on the powerplay – with less than a minute left in the three-minute extra session. Van Eynde also assisted on the first Richmond goal to finish with two points in the game, as did Emily Costales  with assists on both goals.
The Devils were two-for-two with the extra player, while staying out of the penalty box and denying the Vibe a powerplay opportunity,
In the rematch Sunday morning, Richmond fired 40 shots at Kamloops netminder Jaime Sedore in a 4-2 victory. Costales netted the first two goals for the visitors for a 2-0 lead early in the second period. 
Kathleen Cahoon, a day after playing her first game of the season the day before, tallied twice to pull Kamloops even three minutes into the final frame. Specht then scored a go-ahead and insurance goal for Richmond minutes later, upping her season total to seven goals while lifting the Devils to another win.
The two losses by the Vibe netted the team just one point in the standings. They fell to 6-6-0, and allowed the Moose to take over top spot. Meadow Ridge began their weekend with a 4-1 win over the Surrey Wildcats Friday night at Langley Twin Rinks to move past the Vibe in the standings.
Darcy Henderson, Payge Pena,  Leeny Adelsberger and Brie Bellerive tallied for the Moose, with netminder Megan Buchanan making 22 saves for here fourth win in five starts for Meadow Ridge.
Alicia Zhan was the goal scorer for Surrey.
The Moose earned a wild 8-7 decision over the Fraser Valley Jets Sunday afternoon at Twin Rinks.
The Jets led 7-4 early in the third period before Meadow Ridge scored four times in as nine-minute span to rally for the win. Pena scored twice, upping her season total to six in seven games played. Bellerive has six goals in as may games after netting two goals in the come-from-behind win. Meadow Ridge remains undefeated with an 8-0-1 record.
Kirsten Langston, Jade Zamprogno and Kacey Lepp completed the Moose scoring, while Alice Lee scored four times for the Jets with Kirsten Martin adding a goal and four assists and Rachel Buden scoring once.
The Jets also lost Thursday night at New Westminster’s Moody Park Arena, dropping a 6-0 decision to the North Shore Rebels to drop to fifth place at 4-5-1.
Samantha Levy made 34 waves for the shutout,while Karmen Mooney and Danika Carter scored twice each for the Rebels. Megan Taylor and Alexa Pakozdy also netted goals for North Shore, in third place at 6-2-0.
