The six playoff participants for the South Coast Women’s Hockey League provincial championship tournament are set after the final two games of the regular season.
The South Fraser TNT clinched the final postseason berth, edging the first-place Meadow Ridge Moose 2-1 Saturday night at Planet Ice – Coquitlam. TNT tied the Island Surge for sixth place, but South Fraser won the tiebreaker by earning nine of a possible 12 points in four head-to-head games.
The Surge will miss the six-team playoff tournament despite owning the league’s second-best record in the second half of the regular season, erasing a nine-point deficit to the TNT in the playoff race.
The only other game in the final weekend of the season saw the Fraser Valley Jets slide into second place with a 3-1 win Saturday over the Richmond Devils at the Richmond Ice Centre.
Fraser Valley earned the runnerup position on a tiebreaker, having one fewer loss than the North Shore Rebels, who will finish third.
The Devils remained on fifth position, just one point back of the fourth-place Kamloops Vibe.
The six playoff teams will compete for a provincial Senior AA championship Mar. 28-30 at the Sardis Sports Complex in Chilliwack.
