The Meadow Ridge Moose lost their first two games of the season in Week 5 and lost an opportunity to take over first place in the SCWHL.
Meadow Ridge was the last undefeated team in the league after four weeks of play, but dropped a 3-2 decision to the North Shore Rebels at the Langley Sportsplex on Saturday evening,
Megan Taylor tallied with less than four minutes to play for the game-winning goal, allowing the defending provincial champion Rebels to win for the first time this season, Tessa Younger and Sarah Webster also scored for North Shore., in sixth place in the seven-team league at 1-5-0 (win-loss-tie).
Emily Bajkov and Brie Bellerive netted one each for Meadow Ridge.
Bellerive netted two more goals Sunday morning in Chilliwack, but the Moose lost 7-3 to the Fraser Valley Jets. Sydney Kreps notched one for the Moose, while the Jets were paced by three goals and an assist from Kristy Ricard.
Jenna Proulx added a pair for Fraser Valley, with Brianna Barnes-Lindner and Natasha Steblin scoring once each, Fraser Valley sits fourth in the SCWHL at 3-2-0, while Meadow Ridge fell to 4-2-0, three points back of the 5-2-0 Island Surge.
The only other game in Week 5 was Saturday evening at Planet Ice – Coquitlam and saw the South Fraser TNT defeat the Richmond Devils 3-2.
Shea Weighill had a pair of goals for the TNT to up her season’s total to six, with Marisa Chau adding one goal for the third-place TNT (4-2-0).
Ashley Specht with her league-leading 10th goal and Natalie Knight with her first of the season replied for Richmond, in fifth place at 2-2-0.
