The Island Surge and South Fraser TNT split a double-header in Greater Victoria in Week 4, leaving both teams in the top three of the SCWHL standings.
The Surge moved into first place with the three points earned in a 3-0 victory Sunday morning in Esquimalt. Julia Hamilton, Eastlyn Bellamy and Nicole Constable scored the goals for the Island team, with netminder Sydney Akai-Plett making 41 saves for her league-leading second shutout of the season.
The Surge improved to 5-2-0 (win-loss-tie) on the season with the win, three points ahead of the idle 4-0-0 Meadow Ridge Moose.
Alisha Choy and Shea Weighill tallied for the TNT in Saturday night’s 2-1 win over the Surge at the Panorama Rec Centre. Alexandra Hughes replied for the Surge.
The TNT are now 3-2-0, four points back of the second-place Moose.
The Fraser Valley Jets are fourth in the standings after a 2-1 win over the defending provincial champion North Shore Rebels at the Moody Park Arena in New Westminster on Thursday night,
Jenna Proulx and Kelsey Firkus tallied for Fraser Valley, with Alexandra Johnston stopping 44 shots in goal for the victory, North Shore, losers of all five games this season, got their goal from Jasmine Manhas.
The Rebels are tied for last place in the seven-team SCWHL with the Surrey Wildcats, losers of their fourth game in as many starts after a 5-1 setback to the Richmond Devils Saturday night at the Richmond Ice Centre,
Two-time SCWHL scoring champion Ashley Specht netted three goals for the Devils, upping her season’s total to nine in just three games played,
Jodie Wong and Natalie Korenic also scored for the fifth-place Devils (2-1-0), while Emily Johnston replied for Surrey.
