A pair of wins on home ice in Week 6 has left the Island Surge along in first place.
The Surge defeated the Richmond Devils 4-2 Saturday night at the Panorama Rec Centre, then topped Richmond 3-2 at the Archie Browning Sports Centre Sunday morning, moving the Victoria-based Surge four points clear of the Meadow Ridge Moose.
Eastylynn Bellamy, Megan Price, Emily Ripley and Leah Lanthier netted the goals Saturday night, with Melissa Phillips and Ashley Specht replying for Richmond,
In Sunday’s rematch in Esquimalt, Bellamy, Lanthier and Kayla Le Taizel were the goal scorers for the Surge. Stefanie Costales tallied twice for the Devils.
The Surge are 7-2-0 (win-loss-tie), while Richmond fell to fifth-place at 3-4-0.
Richmond did get a win Thursday night, defeating the North Shore Rebels 4-31. Scoring for the Devils were Emily Costales with two goals, Specht and Phillips.
Rebecca Brunswick-Werner scored for the Rebels, in sixth place at 1-6-0.
The Moose toppled the South Fraser TNT 10-1 Saturday night at the Langley Sportsplex, getting four goals from Sydney Kreps and two each from Kirsten Langston and Brie Bellerive. Kailey McMurtry and Whitney Dove also scored for Meadow Ridge, now at 5-2-0 on the season,
Keaira Hall had the lone goal for the TNT, in fourth place at 4-3-0.
The third-place Fraser Valley Jets improved to 4-2-0 on the season, blanking the Surrey Wildcats 3-0 at Langley Twin Rinks.
Kristy Ricard, Natasha Steblin and Shay Gronnemose were the goal scorers, while Stacey Wilson earned the shutout making 13 saves.
