First Star: Sydney Akai-Platt

Island Surge

Goaltender Sydney Akai-Platt posted a .941 save percentage over two games allowing the Island Surge to a split of two home games against the Burnaby Mountain Capitals.

Akai-Platt made 35 saves in a 4-0 shutout win Sunday afternoon at the Esquimalt Arena, a day after making 45 saves on shots in a 5-2 loss at the Panorama Recreation Centre in North Saanich.

Akai-Platt as played 10 of the Surge’s 11 games this season, posting a 4.14 goals against average with an .892 save percentage. In her past three starts, she has a .950 save percentage with a 2.00 goals against average, winning twice.

 

Second Star: Lauren Mackey

Burnaby Mountain Capitals

Lauren Mackey collected five points in three games on Vancouver Island for the Burnaby Mountain Capitals, winners of two games in Week Eight.

Mackey had a goal and two assists in an 8-1 victory over the Cowichan Titans Friday night at the Cowichan Recreation Centre, then added another two helpers in a 5-2 win over the Island Surge Saturday night. The Capitals lost to the Surge 4-0 Sunday afternoon.

 

Third Star: Melinda Choy

South Fraser TNT

Melinda Choy made 16 saves to earn a league-leading third shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over the Meadow Ridge Moose at the Langley Sportsplex Saturday evening.

The former UBC Thunderbird is ranked fourth in the SCWHL in both goals against average (1.63) and save percentage (.923).
