Fraser Valley edges Rebels, TNT tops Moose

After opening the EKanite Consulting SCWHL/Provincial Championship Tournament with a loss Friday morning, the Fraser Valley Jets evened their record with a 4-3 win over the North Shore Rebels at the Hope and District Arena.

In a game that saw the two teams combine for six goals in the first period, the Jets got two-goal efforts from both Melanie Jue and Alanna Kedra to lead 4-2 after one period.

Megan Taylor netted her second goal of the game late in the third period to get the Rebels to within one. Cassidy Bell scored the other North Shore goal.

North Shore can still advance to Saturday night’s semifinal round with a win over the Richmond Devils. A loss or a tie would eliminate the Rebels from the tournament. The Devils will take to the ice Saturday morning against North Shore at 11:15 a.m.

In Friday evening’s second game, the Meadow Ridge Moose and South Fraser TNT were scoreless through 40 minutes until the TNT reeled off three unanswered third period goals for a 3-1 victory.

Sydney Kreps scored the game’s first goal four minutes into the third period to give the Moose the lead. Four minutes later, Michelle Zeigler tied the game for the TNT. In the final minute of play, Taralynn Suzuki netted the game winner for South Fraser, then Brie Bellerive scored into an empty net with one second remaining.

The TNT will be up against the 0-1 Kamloops Vibe Saturday morning at 11:15 a.m. and with a win or a tie can clinch first place in Pool A. Kamloops will advance to the semi-final round with a win.
