Earning three of a possible six points, the Island Surge moved into fifth place in the
SCWHL standings after Week 15, tightening their hold on a playoff position.
The Surge went 1-1-1 on a weekend road trip to the Lower Mainland, starting their weekend with a
2-0 victory over the TWU Spartans Saturday morning at the Langley Events Centre.
The Surge got goals from Katrina Hawkins in the second period and Pam Lou-Poy early in the third, while Megan Buchanan and Melinda Choy shared the shutout.
At the Richmond Ice Centre Saturday evening, the Surge tied the Richmond Devils
2-2 to remain one point ahead of the home team in the standings. Courtney Jacklin and Katie Little tallied for the Island, with Tamara Wong and Hazel Barthel replying for the Devils.
The Island team outshot Richmond 41-28, and both teams were scoreless on two powerplay chances.
The Meadow Ridge Moose handed the Surge their only loss of the weekend, edging the Island
2-1 Sunday morning at the Langley Sportsplex.
Dayna Briggs scored both goals for Meadow Ridge, with Shea Weighill earning a pair of assists. Bailey Kasum netted an unassisted goal for the Surge.
Week 15 began with the Fraser Valley Jets getting past the North Shore Rebels by a
4-3 score Thursday evening at New Westminster’s Moody Park Arena.
Lindsay DiPietro with a goal and two assists and Alannah Kedra with three helpers led the Jets attack. Amanda Christie, Arianna Castillo and Natasha Steblin completed the Jets scoring.
Bianca Cuevas, Haneet Parhar and Kassie Starns scored once each for the Rebels, who trail Richmond by two points for the final playoff position.
