At an on-line meeting of Nov. 12, it was the unanimous decision of the South Coast Women’s Hockey League executive and its member teams to cancel plans for a Return to Play in January, 2021, due to concerns over player safety due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A five-team schedule had been prepared for a 12-game condensed season to be played January-April, 2021. During the meeting of Nov. 12, concerns over rising COVID-19 cases from both players and team officials made it impossible for teams to commit to the proposed season.
The SCWHL will now begin planning for a start to the 2021-22 season in September, a season with a full 26-game schedule followed by a six-team provincial championship in March, 2022. All seven SCWHL teams have announced their intention of participating in the 2021-22 season.
